Display Name Best Practices

This outline provides best practices from Twilio’s resources for creating effective and compliant display names that enhance brand recognition and meet carrier guidelines. Read below for more information:

Approved Display Name Use

  • Must match the legal name, brand name, or DBA (Doing Business As) listed in the business profile.

  • Can include department names or descriptors (e.g., Twilio Support, Twilio Inventory).

  • Must comply with Twilio’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).


🚫 Prohibited Display Name Content

  • Must not be fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive to consumers.

  • Must not contain profanity, hate speech, or endorse violence.

  • Must not include the following restricted terms:

    • FBI

    • Social Security Administration

    • Government

    • Police

    • Medicare


🚫 SHAFT Content Is Not Allowed

Even if it appears in your legal name, the following are strictly prohibited:

  • Sex

  • Hate

  • Alcohol

  • Firearms

  • Tobacco
